Established in 2023, Shadowlit Books is the indie publishing home of author Hannah Clayton. Her stories are shaped by an unshakable belief: mental health is a vital part of our daily lives, and even though society doesn’t always provide the support we need, we can still deepen our understanding of these difficulties through the art of storytelling.
Drawing on her background in clinical psychology, Hannah writes with a focus both on the shadows that follow us and the glimmers of hope that light our way.
Shadowlit stories dive deep into characters’ inner worlds, exploring their struggles, their triumphs, and their dangerously hidden fears. Through authentic psychology and mental health themes, Hannah Clayton brings readers closer to the raw, unfiltered experiences that shape each character’s journey.
While her books tackle important themes, they’re also gripping reads full of fast-paced twists and turns. Mental health doesn’t have to be a bleak subject. Rather, it can add depth, connection, and extra layers to thrilling plots. Even in action-packed settings or chilling horror, the human mind can remain at the heart of every tale.
No matter how dark the story turns, there’s always a thread of hope. Because even in the deepest shadow, there is light waiting patiently to be found.
Hannah Clayton has been writing stories since she was very young, fuelled by an overactive imagination and a constant search for ways to escape reality. That passion led her to study English Literature at the University of Warwick. However, ongoing mental health difficulties meant stepping away to focus on recovery. During that time, she experienced firsthand the challenge of accessing professional help, a turning point that inspired her to work in mental health and give others the support she had once struggled to find.
She later returned to education to study psychology at the University of Manchester and went on to work as an assistant psychologist, supporting young people’s mental health. Her dedication earned her a place on a doctorate course in clinical psychology, where she continues to work with people across a variety of settings.
Now, Hannah combines her passions for literature and psychology to create gripping, psychologically complex stories. Her novels explore the shadows we carry, the resilience we find, and the threads of hope that connect us all.
When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found escaping reality by going to the cinema, devouring books, playing Dungeons & Dragons, or running races to quite literally run away from life’s problems.
